Bali with Children: Which Activities Fit Your Family?

Bali with Children: Which Activities Fit Your Family?

How to choose between a flexible Ubud day, watersports, rafting and ATV rides when children and adults want different things.

Before choosing an activity for a family, I would ask two things: how old are the children, and who actually wants to take part? A booking can suit the older child and still leave a younger sibling or a grandparent waiting without much to do.

Start with the activity everyone is interested in, then work out what the rest of the family will do during it. That gives you a more useful plan than a list labelled “family friendly”.

A flexible sightseeing day can be the easier choice

For a group with different ages, a private sightseeing day in Ubud gives you a route to discuss before you book. Use the Ubud area overview to pick the places you want to see, then ask about access at those particular stops.

A car charter for a family day is another way to arrange transport. It includes the vehicle, driver, fuel and parking. It does not turn every stop into an included activity, so keep attraction tickets and any workshops in a separate budget.

For a toddler, toilets, shade and a place to rest may matter more than the number of stops. Tell us if you are bringing a stroller or need a child restraint. Those details need checking before the vehicle and route are confirmed.

Check watersports ride by ride

The three-ride Tanjung Benoa option lists parasailing, a jet ski ride with an instructor and banana boat. A child being eligible for one ride does not mean they can join all three.

Look through the watersports activity choices with your children first. Then send their ages to the operator and check the participation rules for the rides they actually want. Height requirements, adult accompaniment and equipment should be discussed for each one.

Also make a plan for the person who stays ashore. Where can they wait? Is there shade? Can the group meet for lunch afterwards without a long extra drive? These are small details, but they shape the day.

Rafting and ATV need different decisions

For an Ayung rafting outing, ask about the river access as well as the rafting itself. Steps down to the start and back up at the finish can matter to someone who would otherwise be happy in the raft. Give the operator the children's ages rather than relying on a general “suitable for families” description.

With an Ubud ATV ride, the first question is who drives and who rides as a passenger. Check the driver and passenger rules before choosing single or tandem vehicles. Do not book a single-rider option expecting it to cover two people.

Leave the afternoon undecided

For an activity day, I would start with pickup, the activity, lunch nearby and the journey back. If everyone still has energy, you can discuss a short extra stop. You do not need to reserve that second stop before knowing how the first one goes.

Pack a change of clothes for wet or muddy activities and keep snacks where you can reach them. Before payment, make sure the quote matches the people participating, the people accompanying them, and the transport you need. A non-participating family member may still need a seat even when they do not need an activity ticket.

PLANNING YOUR TRIP

Check your activity arrangements.

Send your hotel area, date and group size. If children are joining or anyone needs help with access, include those details so we can check the right options.
